I live near the Via Rail line in and out of Ottawa. The schedule is regular and if I really want to see a train, I know when to go for a walk (there is a bike path on both sides of the tracks). Sometimes I’ll take along a camera.
On this particular day, I did, and thought I would try a motion blur shot. That is, set up a longer exposure and track the train (no pun intended) while taking the shot. This would render the locomotive in good focus while the surrounding scenery was blurred, making it look like the train was going way too fast.
The short version is it didn’t work out. Oh well, I know when the next train comes by. However, the test shot to get a feel for the motion and get the settings right, worked much better.
Shot with the Fuji X-Pro1 and 35mm lens.
